The Pembroke Trotting Association is a not-for-profit organization that dates back to the mid-1800s. The Association's 1/2 mile trotting track is the oldest in Maine (or second oldest, depending upon whom you ask.] The adjacent Pembroke Fairgrounds are also historic, dating back to the mid-1800s. The Farm & Horse Fair was started this past August (2012), as an effort to revive the fair that had run from the mid-1800s until about 1960. The fair includes various horse demonstrations, including trotting races, traditional local crafts, local foods, exhibits by local artists, and exhibits by local historical societies.
