Maine Irish Heritage Center, Corner of Gray and State St, Portland, ME

In 2012 Senator George Mitchell, the architect of the Good Friday Agreement, returned to Northern Ireland with his 14-year-old son Andrew to visit some of the 61 families whose children share Andrew’s birthday. In this deeply personal film, presented exclusively by the Maine Irish Heritage Center, the Irish families talk about the effects of the Agreement and how life has changed for “the children of peace.” Former President Bill Clinton adds his perspective on the significance of Senator Mitchell’s work. Let the Children Sing We were in Ireland in 1993 when there was an IRA bombing in Warrington, England, in which children were killed. Julia wrote this song as a response to the senseless killing. Five years later it was played on Tommy Sand's radio show in Belfast the day the peace accord was signed. We will be perform the song before the screening.
